Dear Parents/Carers
I write to inform you of the fabulous news following the distribution of the post 18 A Level, BTEC and T Level results published today and to remind relevant families of the arrangements for the forthcoming GCSE results day scheduled to take place next Thursday, 21st August 2025.
This year’s cohort made their post-16 choices in 2023, which was the first year GCSE grading returned to normal after the pandemic. We are all very proud of the achievements of the class of 2025, their hard work and determination has meant they can proudly embark on the next chapter of their young lives with confidence and hope in their abilities, it is truly well deserved.
The headline figures from today's results are as follows:
- 27.3% of all entries were A* - A grade.
- 61.8% of all entries were A* - B grade.
- 87.0% of all entries were A*- C grade.
- 99.6% pass rate
One student secured her place at Oxbridge studying Law. My thanks to Mrs Harper for her support and specialist guidance preparing and supporting our most able students. Many other students secured places to begin their undergraduate studies at Russell Group universities studying a variety of courses including three students securing a place to study Medicine and one young person preparing to study Dentistry. Students secured places to read law, engineering, teaching, nursing, psychology, business management, international relations and art based courses. Others achieved the grades needed to begin their graduate apprenticeship schemes. Some are still waiting for universities to confirm their places, some are embarking on a gap year entering the world of work.
A special mention to the following subjects for their outstanding achievements in securing the top grades higher than the national standard at A* and A grade. Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Drama, Spanish and Theology in particular excelled themselves.
Single BTEC
- 25.9% of students achieved a Distinction star grade
- 59.3% of students achieved a Distinction grade or higher
- 92.6% of students achieved a Merit grade or higher
- 100% of students achieved a Pass grade or higher
Technical Level (T Level)
- 100% Pass rate

I wish to thank the NHS Epsom and St Helier Trust for providing industry placements and offering the students the opportunity to put theory into practice.

Help and Advice
The DfE has published the following series of blogs to help students and parents navigate next steps after today’s results:
Ofqual has produced a toolkit for schools and colleges designed to help explain to parents and students how A level and GCSE qualifications are graded. It includes a short video guide.
If you have any queries or questions around your results including request for copies of scripts or a review of marking, the Examination Officer for the school, Mrs Whitehead will be available at school either in person or on the phone/email from 9am - 2pm on Friday 15th August and next week from Tuesday 19th August - Thursday 21st August inclusive.
Year 11 GCSE/BTEC Results Day - Thursday 21st August
As previously communicated, please read below the arrangements for Year 11 results day and enrolment to St Philomena’s Sixth Form. Please note that parking is available on the school field via Shorts Road.
Collecting GCSE/BTEC Results:
GCSE results will be available for collection from 8:30am - 12 noon. Results will be distributed from the School Dining Hall until 10am, after this time they will be available from the main school Reception.
If a student cannot collect their results on the day, they have two options:
- If a student would like their results posted, the school would require a self addressed stamped envelope prior to 21st August.
- If a student intends on someone else collecting their results on their behalf, a signed letter of consent would need to be provided by the student and returned to the Exams Office Mrs Whitehead. This should have again been received by Friday 25th July, but needs to be with her before 22nd August.
Enrolling for St Philomena’s Sixth Form
As you may appreciate this will be a very busy morning with students enrolling into the Sixth Form. All enrolments will take place in the Marie Thérèse Hall. Please note that internal students, students who attended St Philomena's school do NOT need to bring their passport or proof of ID.
All students have been given an appointment time, where they will meet with a member of staff to enrol onto their Post 16 courses which will start from Wednesday 3rd September 2025. If you are unsure of your daughter’s enrollment time, please email 6thform@stphils.org.uk.
Enrolling at another Sixth Form
If it is your daughter’s intention to study at another Sixth Form, or she has not applied to St Philomena’s Sixth Form and wishes to do so, please see Miss Theodoris, our Sixth Form Administrator, who will be in the Marie Therese Hall. It is essential that you provide destination information to Miss Theodoris before you leave the school site as this is required by the Local Authority. If your daughter is not attending on results day, please email post 16 destination information to 6thform@stphils.org.uk marked for the attention of Miss Theodoris.
Again, many congratulations to all our current Year 13 students for all that has been achieved over the past two years. The whole community is extremely proud and we wish each and every student continued success as they make preparations to embark on either a university course, apprenticeship, gap year or employment.
I hope all Year 13 students and their families take some time to celebrate all that has been achieved. I thank God for his continued presence in their lives and I feel hopeful of the difference this generation will make in our world.
I pray that next Thursday’s results will be equally as pleasing and a source of much celebration for Year 11 as we continue to prepare both cohorts of students for the next chapter of their young lives.
With every good wish for the remainder of the summer break.
Yours sincerely
Ms M Noone
