What is Sutton Secondary Teaching School Alliance?

The purpose of the Sutton Secondary Teaching School Alliance is to jointly develop best practice to develop Outstanding teachers within the Sutton Alliance. This gives trainees the best opportunity to develop specific expertise and understanding of the needs and requirements of schools within the Sutton LA.

As a training school within the Alliance we have a long history of training teachers.

The English Subject Studies Hub

St. Philomena's School is the Hub School for English Subject Studies. As one of the Hub Schools within the Alliance we are responsible for the subject specific pedagogical training and development of English SCITT and School Direct Trainees. Since the development of the Sutton SCITT the trainees have successfully secured teaching jobs across the Alliance including at Cheam High, St. Philomena's School, Blenheim High School, Stanley Park High School, Glenthorne High School, Greenshaw High School, Carshalton Boys Sports College and Wallington High School.

Sutton SCITT

The SCITT led by Glenthorne High School offers the following subjects with a choice of two routes:

scitt

Routes into teaching

Core SCITT Programme

Core SCITT is an entirely school based course providing practical training underpinned by theoretical taught subject and professional studies sessions leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). In addition, you will complete two written assignments with our partner HEI, the University of Roehampton which will enable you to achieve a PGCE (worth 60 credits towards your Master’s degree).

School Direct Salaried

Sutton SCITT offer a limited number of School Direct Salaried places in priority secondary subjects, leading to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This route is open to graduates with at least 3 years experience in the workplace.

Trainees on the School Direct Salaried programme will be employed directly by a school for the duration of their training and will not necessarily be 'supernumerary', i.e. they may be required to teach a timetable from the outset.
