Developing a whole school approach to parental engagement ensures that St Philomena's High School can best meet the needs of students and families in our local community.





Emotional Health & Well-being 14th November 2018 18:30 - 20:00 KTC

It is widely recognised within the education and mental health sectors that children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing has a huge impact on their ability to learn and achieve. We welcome Worth-it Emotional Wellbeing and Resilience to talk to you about how to help your daughter be more resilient and improve her emotional wellbeing. This workshop provides evidence-based sessions designed to give parents the space needed to reflect on family life and support them with tools and strategies to build their children’s resilience and improve wellbeing.  

Key elements explored include: 

  • Defining wellbeing and resilience
  • The benefits of positive relationships for wellbeing and resilience
  • Developing emotional awareness and the benefits of positive emotions
  • Developing resilient thinking skills
  • Using a strengths-based approach to develop resilience
  • Helping your child develop their strengths to maximise their success

The workshop will also provide some take away booklets of simple self-help activities that young people have found helpful in improving their wellbeing and resilience. Click here to sign up to this workshop.


Study Skills

Our study skills workshop will be led by ELEVATE Education. ELEVATE currently works with our Key Stage 4 students in developing a range of study skills through seminar sessions. These seminars are designed to achieve behavioural change amongst students enabling students to apply new skills learnt to their study habits. The session will focus on strategies for supporting your daughter in:

-        Revision methods

-        Study skills

-        Examination techniques

This session is aimed at parents of girls in years 10 and 11.


Childnet Online Safety

We welcome Childnet International, a non-profit organisation working with others to help make the internet a safe place for children. This presentation aims to equip parents with the knowledge on how to protect their children online and provide you with practical advice to implement at home. This workshop gives an overview of the positive, inspiring ways that children can connect and create online combined with the identification of potential risks faced by the internet user.


-                 General context about young people’s internet use, the messages we give in schools, and the positives of the internet.

-                 Risks: conduct, content. Contact.

-                 Conduct: digital footprints, personal information, sexting.

-                 Content: inaccurate information, gaming & apps, adult content, extremist content.

-                 Contact: online friendships, geolocation, grooming, cyberbullying.

-                 Signposting to further help and resources.
