Parental Engagement Workshops for Parents.

 

Developing a whole school approach to parental engagement ensures that St Philomena's High School can best meet the needs of students and families in our local community.

This workshop is run to complement the Year 9 Options Evening and invites both parents and children to attend. The focus is Helping your daughter choose GCSE/BTEC options to inform her career aspirations. The session is a mix of specialist careers guidance, information giving and participation in small groups.   Information about useful careers websites and the careers questionnaire tool, Kudos, is also provided.  The workshop finishes with a Q&A session. 

Childnet Online Safety

We welcome Childnet International, a non-profit organisation working with others to help make the internet a safe place for children. This presentation aims to equip parents with the knowledge on how to protect their children online and provide you with practical advice to implement at home. This workshop gives an overview of the positive, inspiring ways that children can connect and create online combined with the identification of potential risks faced by the internet user.

Overview:

-                 General context about young people’s internet use, the messages we give in schools, and the positives of the internet.

-                 Risks: conduct, content. Contact.

-                 Conduct: digital footprints, personal information, sexting.

-                 Content: inaccurate information, gaming & apps, adult content, extremist content.

-                 Contact: online friendships, geolocation, grooming, cyberbullying.

-                 Signposting to further help and resources.
