Open Evening for 2010/11 admissions to the 6th Form took place on Tuesday 13th October 2009. If you are an external applicant and missed this event, please do contact Mrs Karen Crisp who can arrange for you to have a tour of the school and to speak with Mr. White, Director of 6th Form. All relevant paperwork, including the online prospectus and application form, can be accessed from this website. Applications are accepted at any time, but in order to assist the detailed planning of our curriculum, please meet the application deadline of 13th November 2009. We welcome applications from Catholics and from students of other denominations and faiths.
We celebrate our successes, but always look to improve, so that we can meet the needs of young people in a rapidly changing world. Our students are able to study a range of academic and vocational courses, at A Level and BTEC. In weekly Citizenship lessons students prepare for Higher Education and the world of work, as well as address aspects of Personal, Social & Health Education. On top of this we have an enrichment programme which currently includes the Community Sports Leadership Award, Critical Thinking, the Extended Project Qualification, Music (Gospel Choir) and YASS Open University modules in a range of scientific topics.
Students are well supported and guided by a team of tutors; they take on a wide range of leadership roles and engage in an array of extra-curricular activities. We are a comprehensive sixth form in that we include students of a range of ability levels, but we do not accept a comprehensive range of effort or behaviour – we expect this to be consistently good.
The facilities used by the Sixth Formers include: a refurbished Learning Resources Centre equipped with over 60 new desktop PCs; Study Rooms in a number of subject areas; a Sixth Form Dining Area; the Sixth Form Common Room. Plans are at an advanced stage to significantly improve sixth form facilities over the next 18 months, to promote self-directed learning and student support.
Over a hundred of our Year 12 students have taken advantage of our subsidised notebook computers scheme, and are using their PCs to enhance their learning in lessons, during study periods and at home.
I hope you find the links in this section of the website informative. Please contact our Key Stage Manager, Mrs Karen Crisp, should you have any further questions.
