Avila Partnership

The Avila Partnership formed in 2014 is a commitment to sustaining outstanding Catholic Girls’ education through shared practice between St Philomena’s Catholic High School for Girls and Ursuline High School. Together we share good practice, benchmark data and provide collaborations between departments and facilities. Both Schools recognise and value collaborative learning

45 Year 12 students from each school came together to explore their faith through a Leadership Day in October 2018.   The students explored the role of prayer and spirituality in the 21st Century and how different models of prayer may support and deepen their faith as they continue to develop as young women of faith.

Retreat - Feast of St Teresa of Avila, St Philomena’s and Ursuline High Schools had a joint retreat for Year 12 students. Both schools collaborate under the name Avila Partnership, hence, the coming together on that day.

St Teresa was one of only four female Doctors of the Church, the theme for the day was “Called to be Salt and Light”, which was Jesus’ expectation of his followers after his teaching of the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:13-16). The day was filled with talks and workshops to enable students to explore their spirituality through activities, and prayer.

This educational mission was to promote the ongoing development of the entire potential of every person. In a busy world, we often forget who we are and our purpose on earth can be drowned by the many distractions all around us. The retreat was to help and enhance the well-being and freedom of every person, made in the image and likeness of God and finding fulfilment in God alone. This ultimately gives the individual confidence and courage to live out their faith, by using our gifts and talents to make a difference in our society and the world at large.

The retreat is envisioned to help the young people to explore their own vision and how it is expressed and explored in our behaviour as students in Catholic Schools.

Their skills will be used to lead and guide our younger students in prayer.  'Prayer Monitors' which we have in each form grouphave developed a new model of prayer so that through the week the school  will offer a range of styles that is both relevant and responsive to the needs of the world.
