Summer Reading Challenge

Summer Reading Challenge Flyer Reprint 1

This Summer we are offering an exciting opportunity for young people to get involved in a volunteering capacity, helping to deliver the Summer Reading Challenge to the children of Sutton. We are looking for positive, friendly and enthusiastic young people aged 14 and above who love reading, and would like to volunteer and share their passion for books and literature with younger children.

The Summer Reading Challenge is a national initiative that encourages children aged 4 to 11 to read six library books during the long summer holiday. Children receive special rewards each time they finish a book and there's a certificate for everyone who completes the Challenge.

As a volunteer young people will help library staff to:

• Join children to the Summer Reading Challenge

• Talk to children (mainly aged 4 to 11) about their books

• Hand out stickers and rewards.

Young people will build skills & confidence, get a reference for employment, involvement that supports their UCAS applications, meet new people and have a fun rewarding experience by helping others enjoy reading. We are happy for volunteers to continue into September to fulfil the Duke of Edinburgh volunteering requirements

We are looking for applications from committed students aged 14 plus who are available for a minimum of 3 hours a week from 14th July to the 1th September 2019.

To apply go to sutton.gov.uk/culturalservicesvolunteers or email us at LHAVolunteer@sutton.gov.uk
