End of Term Letter

Wednesday 26th June 2019

Dear Parents / Carers

As we approach the end of the academic year, I am writing to invite and inform you of the different events which are taking place between now and the end of term and to update you with arrangements for the end of the academic year.

Our Annual Open Evening takes place on Tuesday 2nd July. School will close at 12.50pm to enable staff to prepare the school. All students who have volunteered to act as guides or support in subjects will need to return to school by 2.45pm at the latest. If student volunteers wish to remain in school between 12.50pm and 2.45pm lunch will be available. The Dining Hall will open as usual for all students. Students who do not have parental permission to leave the site must remain on the school premises and will be located in the Green Room. We expect all students to be exemplary in their welcome to visitors, behaviour and their uniform.   All students  must  sign out at the end of the evening with a member of the Senior Team or Head of Department.

Please note that school will commence at 9.15am on Wednesday 3rd July with Registration. Students are to be on the premises by 9am and in Form Rooms by 9.10am (with the exception of Year 10 Mentors – see paragraph below*.) Lessons will begin Period 2 at 9.30am. If any student is late on Wednesday morning they will receive an automatic late detention to be served on Saturday 6th July.  Please note there will be no assembly on Wednesday morning.

We welcome our new Year 7 students to school on Wednesday 3rd July for their Induction Day. *All Year 10 mentors will need to be in school at the usual time of 8.15am to welcome our new students. There will be a Nearly New Uniform sale for all students, new and existing; from 3.30pm – 4.30pm on Wednesday 3rd July should you or your daughter wish to purchase spare uniform for September.

All parents, carers and extended family members are invited to Prizegiving for Year 7–10 and Year 12 the week beginning Monday 8th July.  They will take place as follows:

Monday 15th July to Thursday 18th July are Enrichment Activities Days. The final schedule can be found on the school website. The timetable will collapse for these days and students will have the opportunity to experience cross curricular activities that are intended to enrich their curriculum experience further.

Friday 19th July students are expected back in uniform for an 8.30am start. We will end the school year with assembly, Mass and an evaluation of the year. The school year will end at

12.50pm for all students. Again, lunch will be available for those who wish to have it.

Information about the publication of GCSE and A Level results are published on our website, under the News Update Section on the front page, as are details of enrolment to Year 12.

Term dates for 2019/20 are published on our website. The new school year will commence for Years 7, 11 and 12 and 13 on Wednesday 4th September 2019. The remaining years, Year 8, 9 and 10 will return on Thursday 5th September 2019. There will be online study for Years 8, 9 and 10 to be completed on Wednesday 5th September 2019. Work will be available from the evening of Tuesday 4th September.

The final addition of this year’s Philomenian will be published by Thursday 18th July 2019. We will also be inviting you to the Parental Retreat at St Philomena’s on Saturday 28th

September 2019. The theme of the day will be Adolescent Relationships and Spirituality and will involve reflections, talks and a Mass. We hope that you can take some time out to join

us and reflect on how you can help your daughter in her faith development.  Further

information will be shared with you nearer the time.

No doubt, I will see many of you before the term ends. However, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support.  I hope you and your families have a restful summer break when it comes and I look forward to welcoming you back in September for the new academic year 2019/20.

Yours faithfully
