St Philomena’s 125th Celebration Concert

St Philomena’s Music Department organised a special evening of music to celebrate St Philomena’s 125th Anniversary at a very prestigious Central London venue, St John’s Smith Square, on Friday 27th April 2018.  The evening consisted of a number of performances from various ensembles and also solo performances by past and present musicians.

The Celebration Concert was a huge success, it was sold out and you could sense the excitement in the air. The standard was so high and the programme so varied. When we started planning the 125th celebrations to mark this historic occasion, it was felt strongly that music, an ongoing area of excellence should feature prominently in our celebrations. St John’s Smith Square as an acclaimed music venue was chosen by the school to provide the current students with the opportunity to perform at an external concert hall. Research shows that the study of music has a significant positive impact on students’ academic achievement, attendance, participation and engagement in school life.  The students of St Philomena’s who contribute to the musical life of the school are to be commended for their rich diversity of talent and for shaping and enriching our community as a result of it.
Thank you all, to the Daughters of the Cross, parents, governors, staff, friends of St Philomena’s both past and present for contributing to the success of the school over the past 125 years.
