Welcome to the McAuley Suite.
The McAuley Suite (MCA) is a busy and vibrant hub of the school.
We place great importance on students using the MCA effectively and for providing a welcoming environment where they can prepare for their lessons, finish homework, study, read for pleasure and use the resources.
All Year 7 students have an induction to the MCA during the first half term in September, when they are introduced to the MCA Development Co-ordinator and take part in a quiz where they have the opportunity of finding out about resources held.
We work closely with the SEN Department in selecting new fiction texts that are appropriate to read. Paired Reading sessions take place for students with a lower reading age (below 10 years) during lunchtimes. We have volunteers from Year 12 who mentor the lower school students. They are trained on how to develop reading
The resources in the MCA support students in their learning and studying. The non-fiction books have been reviewed by Teaching staff to ensure that all books hold up-to-date information which is meaningful and age appropriate. A revision section has been created and revision guides purchased for each core subject and popular ‘A’ levels. These are available for the students to use in the MCA.
Scholastic Book Fair
The MCA promotes and encourages reading for pleasure. We hold an annual Scholastic Book Fair which is enjoyed by the school community. The date for the next Book Fair is 14th March 2016 –21st March 2016. The Book Fair enables the MCA resources to be added to and updated. We purchase many new titles which encourages further borrowing amongst students. Students are encouraged to recommend titles and authors they think other students might enjoy by writing reviews which are put on display in the MCA. Please go to the following website to find out how a Book Fair can enhance the LRC. http://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/
Author Visit: We are very pleased to welcome Hannah Rogers, who will be visiting us for a book signing event. The author was a student in our school and she will kindly donate a signed copy of the second Sherlock Holmes Book, A Guide to Deduction.
