PROCEDURES FOR STUDENTS WHO ARRIVE LATE TO SCHOOL

We take every opportunity to convey to students and their parents/carers the importance of regular and punctual attendance and would ask for your support with the following procedures:

·Students should be in school by 8.15 a.m. and in their Tutor Room at 8.25 a.m.

·Students who arrive after 8.30 a.m. but before 8.45 a.m. should go to Reception to be registered by a senior member of staff.

·Students who arrive after 8.45 a.m. should go to room 104 and report to the  Attendance Officer, Mrs Town.

·  Students are not allowed to arrive late for Lesson 1 without a slip, unless they have had a music lesson in school.

·  There will be a detention on Saturday morning between 9 a.m and 12 noon for students who have been late twice in one week or three times in half a term.

·Persistent lateness is sanctioned by students being placed on Punctuality Contract. A student on contract who is late will automatically be issued with a one-hour detention after school on that day; parents will always be notified.

·  The Governors Pastoral and Discipline Committee will interview students who are persistently late.

The school’s procedures for dealing with poor punctuality are outlined below:

Stage 1: Tutor monitors punctuality weekly and discusses concerns with student.

Stage 2: Tutor contacts home via schoolcomms or telephone if punctuality continues to cause concern.

Stage 3: Tutor contacts home via letter if punctuality continues to cause concern (total of 5 lates)

Stage 4: Year Leader contacts home via letter if a total of 8 late marks are accrued. A Student Contract is initiated to monitor punctuality daily. Students will stay one hour after school on any day they arrive late; parents will be informed by phone when this is the case.  A student who is late twice in any one week will be required to attend in uniform Saturday Detention between 9 a.m. and 12 noon.

Stage 5: Parents invited to meet with SLT link and Year Leader  (more than 10 lates)

Stage 6: Parents invited to meet with Headteacher and Year Leader (16+ lates)

Stage 7: Headteacher invites parents to meet and discuss continued concerns about punctuality with the Governors Pastoral & Discipline Committee.
